DETROITERS DESERVE A SAFE PLACE TO CALL HOME

Currently, too many families in Detroit are living on the streets, in cars or in deteriorating buildings. That’s not okay. No child should go to bed cold and hungry, and no parent should be forced to choose between feeding their family and paying for shelter.

The Detroit Homeless Initiative is working with churches, neighbors and city leaders to build homes—real homes—for real families. Homes that are clean, warm, safe and move-in ready.

Our Goal?

Build 4,000 homes and move 2,000 families off the streets in the next four years.

Our Mission

To end homelessness in Detroit by building a network of churches, nonprofits, agencies and citizens committed to working together to ensure families have permanent housing, compassionate services and critical resources.

Who We Work For!

We help real people—families, parents, and children—who have nowhere else to go.

Families Without a Home

Too many Detroit families are forced to sleep in cars or unsafe places because they have nowhere else to go. We’re building homes so they have a safe place to live.

Single Parents Struggling

No mom or dad should have to choose between feeding their children and keeping a roof over their heads. We’re helping parents get into secure housing.

Individuals Stuck in Shelters

Thousands of Detroit families are stuck in a cycle of temporary sheltering. We’re creating real, permanent homes so they don’t have to cycle through shelters anymore.

Children With No Safe Place

Children deserve more than a pillow in the backseat of a car. They deserve a warm bed and a safe place to grow up. We’re making that possible.

TWO CHILDREN. ONE TRAGEDY. NO EXCUSE.

Darnell and A’Millah Curry froze to death in Detroit because their family had nowhere to go.

Not because there was no help, but because the help never got to them.

That should never happen.
Not in any city. Not in any country.
And definitely not in Detroit.

We live in the wealthiest nation in the world. Yet, we allow families in Detroit to sleep in their cars.

That’s not just a failure.
It’s a choice.

We say: Not anymore.
Not ever again.

A BOLD STAND AGAINST HOMELESSNESS IN DETROIT

For too long, Detroit’s housing system has failed to work for the people who need it most.

Families are being pushed into shelters or onto the streets.
Mothers and children are living in motels and cars.
Low-income residents are stuck in unsafe, crumbling units.
People are caught in poverty with no pathway out.

That ends now.

The Detroit Homeless Initiative is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make things right and to attack homelessness at the root.

Hope Begins Here

The Ca’Maya Davis Family Resource Center was built to ensure no family in Detroit faces homelessness alone. It provides emergency housing, vital resources, and long-term support to those in need.

It’s more than a shelter. It’s a lifeline.
And a place where every child is guaranteed a home.

“God blessed us with this great nation, and together, we can increase self-sufficiency and empower Americans to climb the economic ladder toward a brighter future.”
Secretary Scott Turner

Our Solution

Detroit doesn’t need more reports, studies or quick fixes. We need permanent, affordable housing—right now.

So that’s exactly what we’re building.

Safe, Affordable Homes

We’re building 4,000 permanent housing units across Detroit—homes that families can actually move into. Not just blueprints, mockups or concepts. Real homes.

Smart Housing for the Future

Our AEDU instaLiving™ units are affordable, high-quality and move-in ready. Each home includes a bed, sink, shower, refrigerator and stove—everything a family needs.

Emergency Housing for Immediate Help

Families are sleeping in cars and on the streets. We’re building bridge housing to make sure no one has to wait for safety.

A Unified Movement to End Homelessness

Churches, nonprofits and city leaders are stepping up together. Because no one can do it alone. But together, no one gets left behind.

OUR IMPACT

We’re not just talking about housing. We’re building it.

  • 200 units already committed by Detroit Faith-Based Housing
  • Local teams and housing agencies engaged across the city
  • Launched Detroit’s first instaLiving™ EVOLV Smart Housing initiative
  • Provided shelter, food and assistance through Detroit Interim Housing
  • Supported organizations with training, capital access and technical guidance

OUR GOAL

By 2029, we will:

  • Build 4,000+ affordable AEDU housing units across Detroit
  • Launch 50-unit communities for large families in critical need
  • Deliver 2,000 units of bridge-to-homeownership housing
  • Ensure no other child suffers the fate of Darnell, A’Millah or Ca’Maya by getting help to families faster and more effectively

No more excuses.
No more delays.
No more families left behind.
